Artiste Peintre Paris

We always paint in someone’s shadow. Soizick Hamon was trained at the Beaux-Arts, where she met Vincent Bioulès and Claude Viallat.

From the former, she keeps the obsession of care: “We must protect the paintings, make them withstand the test of time”

From the second, she remembers the sponge paintings, the taste for repetition, and she is grateful to him for having taught her colour.

Blaise Pascal teaches us that painting attracts admiration by the resemblance of things whose originals we do not admire. In the light of this thought, let’s acknowledge Soizick Martin’s talent: an invitation to pose for a moment, the time to look at us and undoubtedly to please us, with as much light as meaning, as much love as sparkle, but also affection, complicity, happiness, all these essential things, impalpable, certainly, but stirring you.

If the gaze is the mirror of the soul, you can only wish to know more about what nourishes Soizick Martin’s creativity.

And here, good luck! Any attempt to interfere in her intimacy will result in learned conclusions about the fragility of the artist, the inability to say and other subtleties that are as much a matter of common sense as they are a reflection of reality: that’s how Soizick Martin paints and there would be nothing more to add.

Let us insist, because to explore the unfathomable, we come across a few nuggets. She will shout out the euphoria that wins her over with the brush in her hand, will confess to you the doubt that eats away at her once the utensil has rested, will speak to you of a need that blossomed in adolescence, will confess to you some of the hiding that was done to mother: for if there is an age when one necessarily has to sneak out, it is to attend evening classes, in secret, that Soizick once sacrificed to the rite. Of these nocturnal escapades, the disobedient young girl keeps a thousand drawings and one design…

In the light of her work, the personality of the artist is revealed: voluble, warm, Soizick Martin shows, as if by reflex, a sincere interest in the other, this “unknown friend”, as the poet Jules Supervielle would have called him.

From the Morocco of her childhood, Soizick Martin has inherited refinement. And nothing could better express this than his entire body of work: it is a question, as the exhibitions go on, of her ability to capture those moments that make us say that art is life
